How to use Photoshop efficiently

If you’re a Photoshop newbie, follow these tips to quickly get comfortable with the tool and start getting creative:

* **Turn the zoom feature on.** Unless you have laser surgery surgery on a very regular basis, the zoom feature will save you endless hours while you create and edit your images. You can zoom in and out by holding down the Ctrl key and pressing the plus or minus keys on your keyboard.

Photoshop’s Spot Healing feature is similar to the Gimp’s _Unsharp Mask filter,_ but the Gimp feature is easier to use because it has a slider that you can adjust. The Spot Healing feature is more customizable.

* **Use the smart guides.** The Smart Guides (also known as _Magic Tools_ ) enable you to easily align your image to the screen. Once you’ve selected the Smart Guides feature, use the up and down arrows to draw a bounding box around a specific area of your photo and click it to align the image to the Magic Tool’s bounding box.

Step 1. Install Photoshop Elements

If you have a Mac, download the software from Mac App Store. If you’re on a Windows computer or want to try another platform, click here.

If you’re on a Linux system, look for “GIMP Image Editor.”

Step 2. Open the Photoshop Elements software on a Mac

On a Mac, you will need to open an image file using Preview, which is part of the OS X.

Open the Photoshop Elements software and choose Open from the File menu.

Step 3. Open the Photoshop Elements software on Windows

If you’re using Windows, you will need to open a compatible image file using a compatible software.

Step 4. Open Photoshop Elements

When you open the Photoshop Elements software, you will be presented with the following screen.

Click the Image pane to open the workspace.

Click the Workspace icon at the top right of the screen. Choose New.

Click the New Workspace button to add a new workspace. Choose the size of the workspace (default), and click OK.

You can always resize the workspace size when you use Photoshop Elements.

Splitting Java method into multiple methods for testing

I have a method that does some heavy computation and printing. In order to test it, I will need to come up with a way to avoid the logging by calling the method without logging.

I can’t really put them into different methods because the method that prints is different for every call.
What would be the best approach?


The best would be to have a String constructor that does the stuff you want to do, e.g.
public String foo(String a, String b) {
String foo = a + ” ” + b;
String bar = a + ” ” + b;
// do something with foo and bar
return foo + ” ” + bar;

public static void main(String[] args) {
String result = new foo(“hello”, “world”).foo(“hello”, “goodbye”);

This way you are testing your “do something with foo and bar” code.
You can then call it with
System.out.println(new foo(“hello”, “world”).foo(“hello”, “goodbye”));

As an aside: you are also doing it in a very bad way, since you are printing out the string without checking any of the results. If an error occurs, you will print out the error without any way of checking the result of your method.
